Aurecon has announced the appointment of Garth Higgo as industry director, mining. Reporting to Stephen Wells, the company’s chief business development officer, Higgo will lead the strategic growth of Aurecon’s resources business globally.
“Garth brings a wealth of knowledge from his background in the African and Australian mining industry, which spans more than 30 years. With strong leadership skills and a sound understanding of the resource industry, Garth will play a pivotal role in continuing to foster and maintain strong long-term client relationships and building our resources business globally,” Wells said.
Prior to joining Aurecon, Higgo was the global director of the rail and transportation group at Calibre Global for nearly four years. During this time he grew the business into the largest heavy haul rail project delivery and engineering company in the world.
Higgo has held executive positions with Firestone Energy Limited, Consolidated Minerals and Anglo Platinum. His experience includes roles in civil engineering, banking, mining corporate finance, business development, mining operations and engineering services/EPCM.
“I believe there are still very good opportunities globally for those miners who understand the risks and can innovate by using the best skills and technology to drive down costs. I look forward to working with our mining clients to develop solutions that will drive continuous and sustainable improvements,” Higgo added.
